Polymer and Hybrid Microfluidic Consumables
• Food Safety
• Drug Discovery
• Environmental Testing
Flow Alliance gives you the power of more than one:
An alliance brings out the best in all partners involved. The Flow Alliance is driven by three expert companies: Micronit, Axxicon and Helvoet. We cover the full flow of polymer microfluidic consumables, from idea to high volume manufacturing.
With the help of microfluidics, science has managed to realise major breakthroughs in the areas of healthcare and life sciences. Think of in-vitro diagnostics, point-of-care diagnostics, food safety, environmental testing, development of medicines and so forth.
Many instrument makers opt for a polymer-based microfluidic consumable centred around costs and scalability. However, the road from first prototype to high-end volume manufacturing requires a thorough knowledge of microfluidics and materials. That’s our world and we’re happy to assist you in the development and manufacturing of your high-volume, polymer-based microfluidic consumable.
Polymer for high volumes
The Flow Alliance is at your side during every stage of your polymer-based microfluidic consumable project. Combining innovation and creativity with a robust development process to maximise the use of our proven technologies. With the combined expertise of our three member companies forming a sturdy base, we can collaborate easily with you to develop your consumable with your goals and scalability in mind.
Competences to support you
Our competences are drawn together by design, injection moulding tooling and process development, prototyping, delivery of validation samples and high-volume manufacturing.
The scope of a project is determined by what is best for you. From a moulded substrate to a complete consumable including reagents, biomarkers, etc.
One of the three member companies will be your point of contact, making it clear and easy for you. Our way of working is valued as friendly and professional.

The development of a successful microfluidic consumable starts with a good and reliable design. One that is suitable for volume manufacturing and the shortest possible time to market. How do we get you there? By combining the knowhow of the complete supply chain offered by the Flow Alliance. We are strong in integrating various functions and technologies into one consumable, always with high quality and economical manufacturing in mind.
Our prototyping services enable you to easily and efficiently test your design according to its specifications. We can quickly provide you with polymer samples either made directly into a polymer substrate by micro-milling or hot embossing, moulded in our own mould bases or, for your validation, produced with dedicated injection moulding tools. We offer the best sampling solution for all your project phases.
Flow Alliance offers 25 years of experience in the replication of nanostructures and microstructures in optically clear products. What’s more, we can fully support your development and production demands. With our optics capabilities we enable direct optical readouts in the chip.
We provide expertise in optimal moulding processes, sample preparation, flow control (integrated valves and pumps), surface treatments and bonding processes. Additionally, we offer reliable high-quality manufacturing in injection moulding, post processing, (hybrid) assembly and packaging in certified clean environments.
We are certified for ‘the development and manufacturing of medical devices’, and offer our partnership to support you during the development and manufacturing of your smart consumables.

Polymer and Hybrid Microfluidic consumables
Established in 1939, Helvoet Rubber & Plastic Technologies is internationally active in the custom-made development and manufacturing of precision rubber and plastic components and assemblies. Helvoet’s competitive advantage lies in the engineering and manufacturing of functional parts and modules for use in various application areas and markets. For assembled products, the application of innovative rubber, plastic and assembly technology plays a prominent role.
Axxicon has over 30 years of experience in high precision mould making and injection moulding process development, with a background in the optical media (CD, DVD, Blu-Ray) industry. Axxicon is specialised in the replication of microstructures and nanostructures that combine high optical requirements. As of 2010, Axxicon has served the microfluidics market by enabling the production of polymer microfluidic cartridges.
Micronit was founded in 1999, with an initial focus on the miniaturisation of devices using microtechnology. Currently, Micronit is the world leader in the field of innovative lab-on-a-chip and MEMS solutions that utilise micro- and nanotechnologies. Micronit offers a unique combination of microfluidics and MEMS expertise, from design to prototyping to manufacturing; materials, from glass to polymers, in silicon or hybrid combinations and application knowhow.

Bringing your microfluidic consumable to life
Wednesday, 2 December at 10 a.m. CET
Wednesday, 2 December at 7 p.m. CET(= 1 p.m. EST, 10 a.m. PST).
At this event, we will look at certain stage transitions and specifically the transition from a product prototype to commercial manufacturing. We will highlight the challenges together with the necessary tools to move forward successfully and change 'problem' into 'progress'.
The event will be hosted by Markus Schwarz (Helvoet) and he will be joined by the experts Christine Swinkels (Axxicon), Monica Brivio, Ph.D. (Micronit), and Herman Koks (Helvoet).
The duration of the event is about 1 hour, including a 10-15 minutes Q&A session.
